Abby Rickel graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Sociology/Anthropology and a minor and Business. While completing undergraduate work she studied the Japanese language for 5 years and worked part time tutoring fellow students. She went on later to complete her Masters in Nursing also at VCU. She has been employed with Family Practice Associates as a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner since 2009 working directly under the supervision of Dr. John Verheul.
Her background in healthcare includes serving in registration in the Emergency Department at Chippenham Hospital from 2001 to 2004 and later as a registered nurse on the medicine/telemetry floor of MCV Hospital from 2006 to 2009. While certified to diagnose and treat patients of all ages she has a concentration on women’s health. Finding satisfaction in helping patients learn about bioidentical hormones and how to feel their best.
She has enjoyed serving her community as the Childcare Coordinator for New Directions Shelter for battered women. As well as having been an active participant in Meals on Wheels for the Richmond community.
Abby and her husband AJ stay busy with their two young children. AJ is a graduate of VMI and NC State. He works as a Structural Engineer for Dunbar, Milby, Williams, Pittman, and Vaughn in the Midlothian.
